There are countless sources of information available regarding diamonds and what makes one more expensive or more beautiful than another. So much has been written about diamond education today. We feel the best information available on the web is available directly from the leader in diamond education, GIA (click to visit). So we would like to refer you to the GIA diamond education page for a general overall lesson in the four C's, cut, color, clarity and carat. When you want more specific information, about what we consider to be the most desirable cut characterists for each diamond shape please visit our Preferred Cut Characteristics page (click to visit). Cut Grades
Only round brilliant diamonds are assigned an actual cut grade by GIA. Beware, some online diamond retailers are assigning round brilliant diamonds as well as fancy shaped diamonds unofficial cut grades. These cut grades are not always recognized by GIA or AGS. Some online retailers use grades like “Signature Ideal” and Excellent when GIA or AGS has not assigned this grade. Always look for the actual cut grade on the GIA or AGS diamond report.
When you are considering diamond shapes other than round brilliant we believe there are specific cut characteristics that are more desirable than others. These characteristics can vary quite a bit depending on the shape. If you would like our opinion on what cut characteristics make the most beautiful diamond in regards to brilliance, scintillation and fire we encourage you to contact one of our Graduate Gemologists or refer to our Preferred Cut Characteristics Page (click to visit). |
